Did you see the story on 60 minutes last night about South African, Mike Rutzen who swims with Great Whites without the cage?? This was a great story about the insight of these fascinating creatures of the ocean. The footage and behaviour shown in this story is very much the sort of curiosity that we get from sharks that visit our boat attracted to the music. A couple of things that are worth mentioning, that are of interest to those people out there that are still denying that you can see great whites without berley. You will notice in this story that although they used chum to attract the sharks in the first instant, they then stopped the use of chum or berley and there was no use of baits to keep the sharks around during the dive. This is because it is chumming that makes sharks aggressive not people or boats. Adventure Bay Charters offer a similar experience to this one of seeing Great White Sharks in their element, graceful and curious, majestic and with no doubt to their raw power and potential. Although Adventure Bay Charters do not take people swimming without the cage we commend Mike Rutzen for trying to show the world a different side to these awesome animals. You will notice in the article that Mike Rutzen doesn’t commercially take guests out to free swim with these Great White Sharks and is only prepared to risk his own life for his beliefs.
It is easy to condemn someone for thinking outside the box of conventional wisdom and this story certainly tickles that fancy, to write off Mike Rutzen as crazy. However if you read between the lines of the story and put yourself out side of your own comfort zone occasionally, you get an understanding of just how mind blowing life can be. This is why I work for Adventure Bay Charters so I can safely take people on that ride of a life time and experience the joy that this exposure brings to complete strangers every day. Swim with Tuna, Swim with Sea Lions or Swim with Great Whites, it doesn’t matter – I’ll see you on the water soon!!
