I never thought as a fisherman that I would be so happy to see so many sharks! Yes folks, cage diving with Great White Sharks in Port Lincoln, Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, are seeing unprecedented numbers of the impressive Great White Sharks. These awesome predators that visit these waters on a vagrant stop of their sub circumnavigation of Australia are at the moment in near plague proportions in South Australia. We are seeing on average 4.6 sharks a day over and above the industry average for May, according the figures from the CSIRO scientist Barry Bruce’s office in Hobart.
For those that are about to Rock, hold on as this all adds up for a wild ride, and a great shark cage diving experience! On Sunday Captain Shaun took a boatload of locals and visitors to the Neptune Islands for a great day out. Over 5 different Great White Sharks were seen; a big 5.5 meter fella loved us so much he followed the boat out of the bay!
On the following Sunday, I took another boat load of international and local visitors down to the Neptune Islands for another fantastic day out. Our old mate 5.5. meter shark was back and he brought a few of his little friends. We saw at least 4 different sharks (it is hard to identify sometimes from the surface with sharks in the 3 to 4 meter range). We also saw roughly 50 metres from the boat, a male of 3.5 metres launch himself at least 6 meters out of the water. The sharks at the moment are literally jumping in the back of the boat:).
So for that back packer that told me on Sunday afternoon that he didn’t think music would attract sharks, check out the footage we got on Sunday on youtube http://youtu.be/zNwqeNqg4p4 and for the non believers out there also check out the reports on trip adviser http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g499726-d1413991-Reviews-Swim_with_Tuna_Sea_Lions_and_Great_Whites_Adventure_Bay_Charters-Port_Lincoln_South_Australia.html- get in now. I am going to show you something that you have never seen before shark, diving to rock music and ACDC!
Rock On!!
Captain Matt
